Gary Nelson

Business Agent - Manitoba District Council, Directors Guild of Canada

Gary's career as a Union Representative began in 1977. Most of his career has been in the representation of nurses and other health care professionals in Canada, and the United States. He has worked as a Board Officer with the Manitoba Labour Board and as a Labour Relations Officer with the University of Manitoba. In 2017 Gary joined the Directors Guild of Canada here in Winnipeg, as it's Business Agent. Gary has extensive experience in the negotiation of collective agreements, contract administration & interpretation and advocating for the rights of union members. He has been a guest lecturer at numerous Universities and a conference speaker on labour and education issues across Canada and the United States. Gary is also actively involved in public education, serving as an elected member of his local school board for 30 years.
