Frances-Anne Solomon is a trailblazer in the film and television industry, and an award-winning filmmaker, producer, curator and entrepreneur. Born in England of Trinidadian parents, she was raised and educated in the Caribbean and Canada before moving to Great Britain where she built a successful career with the BBC as a TV Drama Producer and Executive Producer before moving to Toronto in 2000. She is the founder and CEO of the multi-facetted CaribbeanTales Media Group that includes production, film festivals, training and distribution.
A 2019 Director member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, her third feature film “Hero: Inspired by the Extraordinary Life and Times of Mr. Ulric Cross” has received wide critical acclaim on its worldwide tour, that includes theatrical runs in both Canada and U.K. She was the Co-creator, Producer and Director of “Lord Have Mercy!” Canada's hit Caribbean sitcom, that aired on Vision TV, Toronto/one, Showcase and APTN in 2003 and was nominated for two Gemini Awards: Best Comedy series, and Best Individual Performer (Leonie Forbes). Filmography includes: “Caribbean Girl NYC” (Pilot, Flow), “Battledream Chronicles” (Pilot, Flow), “Heartbeat” (TV documentary series, Bravo), “What My Mother Told Me” (Channel Four), “Bideshi” (British Film Institute), “Peggy Su!” (BBC Films), “A Winter Tale” (City TV), among others.
Solomon is a Director member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Director’s Guild of Canada.
