Manitoba interactive digital media showcase

Monday, January 11 5pm-7:30pm

Khal Shariff from Project Whitecard
presenting a VR version of Star Rangers

Star Rangers is an open ‘sandbox’ of the local solar system incorporating NASA content, with an emphasis on building gear with 3D printers to help you survive. The game is in private alpha now. Locales on Mars, including the Victoria Crater, the Million Mounds area of the Moon, and a best-guess depiction of what it’s like under the ice on Europa (!) are all available right now, as well as test locales around the Solar System.

Dylan Fries from Electric Monk
presenting The Great Grey Owl Experience

The Great Grey Owl Experience is a virtual look at Manitoba's Boreal Forest. Experience the solitude and excitement of the deep woods and get a firsthand look at the majestic Great Great Owl. This project is an early prototype of what will be an innovative way of educating and entertaining people of all ages about the untouched wilderness of Manitoba.

Corey King from ZenFri Inc.
presenting Clandestine Anomaly

Featuring incredible location-based augmented reality gameplay wrapped in a personalized narrative, Clandestine: Anomaly changes how you see the world around you — literally. Using your phone as a tool for covert communication and strategic seek-and-destory combat, your neighborhood is transformed into the frontline of an epic sci-fi conflict.
With alien software super-charging your mobile device, you witness a hidden conflict raging all around you.  Defend your neighborhood by commanding an arsenal of weapons, deployed to real world locations or toss yourself directly into the action by calling in devastating airstrikes.

Elbert Bakker from Handcraft Creative
presenting Winnipeg Folk Festival in 360°

As one of the biggest festivals in North America, the Winnipeg Folk Festival attracts more than 30,000 people to Birds Hill Park every year. Winnipeg digital companies Handcraft Creative and The Campfire Union joined forces this year to capture and share the experience in a whole new way. 360 video is a fully immersive experience, and allows the user to enter scenes at the Folk Festival and feel what it's like moving between spaces and performances.
This project is a collaboration between video production with Handcraft Creative, and VR development with The Campfire Union, including their new custom virtual reality media player, called Scout 360°.
