JJ Neepin (she/her)

Director & Writer
JJNeepinFilms Inc.

JJ Neepin is an Indigenous Writer and Director based in Winnipeg. She is a member of the Fox Lake Cree Nation and grew up in the Hub of the North, Thompson, Manitoba.

For several years, JJ has been honing her storytelling skills in the documentary world. Starting with her NSI short film The League with her sister/partner/producer Justina Neepin, they formed their company JJNeepinFilms INC. Working with CBC Docs, they created their most well known shortfilm Headdress which premiered at the Hot Docs International Film Festival. This lead to further opportunities for JJ to direct for documentary television including APTN's Taken, The Other Side, Amplify, and Michif Country.

Documentary was never the plan but was the path that allowed JJ to learn and grow as a filmmaker while hoping to return to fictional storytelling. In 2022 JJ made her TV Directorial debut on an episode of Citytv's series Hudson & Rex.
In between gigs JJ is working towards making her first feature called Luminous about a young woman named Aura who has the gift to see and find missing people and must save her best friend before it's too late.

When she's not working or writing JJ enjoys reading and learning about True Crime, reading manga, and working on her scrapbook journals.
